Police claimed to have rescued a young woman in Bhoot Kharos village, moments before she was about to be shot dead on the pretext of Karo-Kari. The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Ketty Mumtaz Police Station on Thursday.

The woman, identified as Mema Kharos, was admitted to the Rural Health Centre in Naundero, from where she was shifted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital due to non-availability of  doctor.

SHO Abdul Wahab Masan told media that when the police rescued the young woman, she had been tortured by her husband and that he was planning to kill her. The victim said that 12 days ago, she was married on 'Watta Satta' basis to Daim Kharos, while his sister was married to her brother. She said that after the wedding, her husband had asked not to go to her parents' house and a day earlier, he had started beating her and even shot her.


The victim alleged that while her husband was beating her, her father, father-in-law and maternal uncle stood as silent spectators.

According to police officials, one of the accused, Mehar Kharos, has been arrested along with the weapon.
