Lt Gen Abbas appointed as Commander Rawalpindi Corps, Lt Gen Ashraf as Commander Southern Command

RAWALPINDI:
Pakistan Army has made a number of high-level transfers and postings in its ranks, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations on Thursday.

Lieutenant General Azhar Abbas has been appointed as the new Commander Rawalpindi Corps, stated the notification.

The Rawalpindi-based formation is a vital command of the army and is responsible for security at the Line of Control (LoC). The reshuffle comes amid recent tensions between the two nuclear-armed states after India’s revocation of occupied Kashmir’s special status.

It stated that Lt Gen Waseem Ashraf has been posted as Commander Southern Command, replacing Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa. Lt Gen Ashraf was serving as Inspector General Arms (IG Arms) prior to his new posting.


Lt Gen Mohammad Chiragh Haider has been appointed as the new Director General of Joint Staff (DG JS) at JSHQ, replacing Lt Gen Azhar Abbas.

Lt Gen Khalid Zia has been posted as the new IG Arms, whereas Lt Gen Bilal Akbar has been appointed as the new Chairman of Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), Wah, replacing Lt Gen Sadiq Ali.

On Wednesday, Pakistan Army had promoted four major generals to the rank of lieutenant general.

Those promoted include Major General Muhammad Aamer, Chiragh Haider, Nadeem Ahmed Anjum and Khalid Zia.
