Filled with suspense, crime and drama, Netflix's La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) has been touted as the most popular show amongst mystery fans.

The Spanish-language series explores a group of surprisingly charming thieves in Spain and the recently released season three did not disappoint. Although there is no official confirmation about a potential season four return, many feel it will get renewed considering it was 2018's most popular foreign language TV series.

Compiled from The Oprah Magazine, here is a list of five shows whose storylines bear similarities with Money Heist.

1. The Lord of the Skies

In English, the show's title El Señor de los Cielos translates to The Lord of the Skies and it is a series based on the life of Amado Carrillo Fuentes, the former leader of the Juarez Cartel in Mexico. The award-winning show is a bit more dramatic than Money Heist since it is a telenovela but if you're looking for similar levels of action, this one could be your cup of tea.

2. Bodyguard

Starring Game of Thrones' star Richard Mardsen, Bodyguard is a political thriller about David Budd, whose task is to protect British home secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes). In the beginning, the six-part series appears to be about Budd and Montague's relationship but the themes of terrorism and corruption among the secret service and police eventually begin to unfold.

3. Narcos

Although Money Heist isn't based on a true story, Netflix's other original series Narcos is. The raw, gritty show chronicles the real-life story of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar’s rise to power before his ultimate demise. Season three moves on to tell the story of the real power players: the Cali Cartel. The series is in English and Spanish.

4. Prison Break

A main storyline in Money Heist is the relationship between The Professor and Inspector Raquel Murillo. The two have this cat and mouse game that becomes very personal. That chase is very apparent between Inspector Mahone (William Fichtner) and Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) in Prison Break. The show tells the story of Lincoln ‘Linc’ Burrows (Dominic Purcell), an innocent man sent to death row while his brother, Miller's character, tries to rescue him by getting himself sent to the same prison.

5. Breaking Bad

In Money Heist, The Professor keeps his real identity hidden as long as he can just like Bryan Cranston's Walter White in AMC's Breaking Bad. The series is about a high school chemistry teacher, Walter, who, after getting diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer, turns to cooking and selling meth with the help of Aaron Paul's Jessie Pinkman in an effort to secure his family's financial future.
