PM Imran sets up body to resolve Karachi's issues

Makes Law Minister Farogh Naseem head of the high-level committee

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday constituted a high-level committee to formulate short-, medium- and long-term plans to resolve the issues being faced by the residents of Karachi.

“The people of Karachi are suffering due to the mismanagement and neglect of the past governments,” said the prime minister while chairing a meeting to review the cleanliness drive and other development projects in Karachi.

The meeting was attended by federal ministers Barrister Faroogh Naseem, Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Special Assistant Dr Zafar Mirza, MNA Aftab Hussain Siddiqui, members of the Sindh Assembly Firdous Shamim Naqvi and Haleem Adil Siddiqui, FWO Director General Major General Inam Haider Malik and other senior officials.

The committee would be headed by Minister for Law and Justice Dr Faroogh Naseem. Other members of the committee would include federal ministers for maritime affairs, planning, Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) director general and others.
According to a statement issued by the media wing of the PM Office, the committee has been directed to submit its early recommendations on the proposed plans.

The meeting took stock of issues like provision of clean drinking water, sewerage, cleanliness, mass transit system and others.
During the meeting, the prime minister expressed his serious concerns over the issues faced by the people of Karachi, saying the federal government would play its full role in the resolution of these issues.

PM Imran said, “The federal government wants to resolve these problems so that residents of the port city can get better facilities.”
The prime minister said Pakistan's future was linked with Karachi as being its financial hub.

“Besides, scarcity of clean drinking water, the residents are facing serious health issues,” he observed.
The prime minister also directed continuation of cleanliness drive in the city.

The FWO director general briefed the meeting about the progress on the cleanliness drive.
