KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday paid tribute to the legendary leg spinner Abdul Qadir, who died of a heart attack on Friday, calling him a ‘genius’ and one of the greatest of all time.

Offering condolences and prayers for the bereaved family, the PM said late Abdul Qadir was the life of the dressing room who used to entertain the team with his wit and humour.

In a tweet, Imran said Qadir’s bowling statistics did not do justice to his genius.

“Had he been playing cricket now with the modern DRS [Decision Review System] system, where batsmen can be given out on the front foot as well, Qadir would have gotten as many wickets as the great Shane Warne,” he said.

Warne himself expressed grief at Qadir’s death, terming him a bowler who bamboozled a lot of people.

“I had the opportunity to meet him in 1994 on my first tour to Pakistan. I think a lot of people who bowled leg-spin, like I did, he was the guy who we looked up to in the eighties. He was the main leg-spinner in that era,” he told Sky Sports.
