Govt gets licence renewal fee

The government of Pakistan has received payments amounting to $224.6 million and Rs35.262 billion (equivalent to $224.6 million) from two cellular companies as their licence renewal fee, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday. According to the statement, the licence renewal fee of the telecom companies collected by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is a significant source of non-tax revenue for the federal government. Due to stay orders given by the apex court, the collection of the renewal fee from the two companies, which was budgeted in the previous fiscal year, had been delayed. However, with efforts of Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, due payment from the two companies had now been received by the government, the statement said.
