After rains all week, the city feels the heat
According to PMD, the hot weather is expected to persist today
KARACHI:
The city experienced a rise in temperature on Saturday as the winds blowing from the sea remain suspended. Hot and humid weather was experienced in the city with mercury hitting 36 degree Celsius. The hot weather, due to the formation of a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea, is expected to continue today (Sunday). However, some areas of the city experienced light showers and drizzling while the sun blazed in other areas. A rainbow was seen in the horizon when the clouds cleared.
Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Karimabad, Saddar and the Passport Office area, among others, experienced light rain. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the sea winds suspended on Friday night due to the low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea resulting in hot and sultry weather conditions on Saturday.
According to PMD, the highest temperature on Saturday was recorded at 36.5 degree Celsius with up to 65 per cent humidity in the air. Hot winds from the north-west direction of Balochistan were blowing through the city which increased the intensity of the hot weather.
PMD Acting Chief Meteorologist Shahid Abbas said that the hot weather could last till Sunday after which the low-pressure system would disappear or take another direction. A 40-day spell will affect the city from September 25 to November 7 like it does every year, he said adding that the increase in the heat from the Sun would be recorded along with the decline of cloudy weather during this spell while the temperature may exceed up to 40 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, a rainbow appeared in the sky after light rain on Saturday. It could be seen by residents of Clifton, Defence Housing Authority, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and other areas.
