Minor sexually assaulted in DI Khan

Police have registered a case and are looking for the suspect

A minor has been sexually assaulted allegedly by her relative in the Paharipur area of Dera Ismail Khan, police said on Sunday.

According to the first information report, Jumma Khan, a resident of Mohallah Mochyan in the Jumma Mochi area of DI Khan lured a nine-year-old girl by promising to buy her a pack of chips and juice and take her to visit his father’s grave.

After consuming the snacks, the girl reported fell unconscious. Taking advantage of this, the suspect allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulted her.

Later, the brought the girl back home in an unconscious state. When the girl came to, she complained about pain in her navel area. Alarmed, the mother rushed her child to a doctor who, after examination, confirmed that the child had been subject to sexual assault.

The suspect lives on the same street as the victim and has been married twice. The suspect, though, remains at large.

A senior police officer claimed that they registered a case after a medical expert confirmed sexual assault. He added that they have raided multiple known residences and suspected hideouts in the district but have yet to find him.

Residents of the area urged the district police to provide justice to the orphan girl or else they will set fire to the house of the suspect as per tribal customs.

ANP Swabi leader gunned down

A district-level leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) was gunned down late on Saturday by unidentified gunmen in Swabi.

Haji Fazl Khaliq, a seasoned politician and a close aide to former ANP leaders Abdul Wali Khan and Bacha Khan, was going home after completing daily political activities in the district when unidentified armed motorbike riders opened fire on him and fled.

As a result of the attack, Khaliq died on the spot, read a first information report (FIR) registered by the Parmoli police. The report has been lodged against unidentified armed men.

His body was shifted to the Kalu Khan hospital for a post-mortem. Later, after completing all legal formalities, the hospital administration handed over his body to his relatives.

On Sunday, Khaliq’s funeral prayers were offered in his native village of Shawa in Swabi,

Police also carried out a limited search operation in the area after the incident, while no reports of any arrests were shared with the media.

Newly-wed couple hanged in honour killing

Bodies of a newly-wed couple were found hanging in a tobacco kiln in Buner late on Saturday in what officials suspect could be an honour killing case.


The couple was laid to rest on Sunday.

Police said that on Saturday evening, they were called to a tobacco kiln in the Shalbandi Darra area of Buner. Upon arriving at the scene, officers said that they found the body of the couple hanging.

The local SHO told The Express Tribune that since they did not find any identification documents on the couple, they contacted the National Database Regulatory Authority (NADRA) to identify the couple. Records showed that the young man was 22-year-old Saleem and the girl was 18-year0old Nama Bibi who were residents of the Shalbandi village in the district.

“The couple had recently married but without the consent of their parents and have been living away from their village,” the police officer said, adding that the couple has been on the run for a while.

“We have lodged an FIR against unidentified people and have launched an investigation into the crime, he said, adding that they have also collected fingerprints and other evidence.

It is pertinent to mention that an honour killing incident was recently reported from the Mamakhel area in the provincial capital of Peshawar within the remits of the Pishtakhara police station.

Six terrorists booked

The DI Khan counter-terrorism department has lodged an FIR against six suspected members of a proscribed militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Khiyar Parwah group, who were allegedly behind the attack on a police check-post in the district on Saturday which left two civilians dead and another injured.

The suspected militants had allegedly raided the check-post in the Parwah area of the district with automatic weapons. They also lobbed hand grenades during a 20-minute skirmish. They allegedly fled when they could not overcome security forces in the check-post.

Those booked in the FIR include Abdul Rehman, Salman, Qismat Khan, Muhammad Khan, Numan, and Zahid commander. They are also believed to be involved in the kidnapping of five youngsters from the district three months ago.

The police have also announced a bounty for Zahid’s arrest.

Tribal militia sets fire to murder suspect’s house

A tribal militia on Sunday set fire to the house of a man in Mohmand who is suspected to have been involved in the murder of a teenager and injuring three others.

The move, in line with established tribal customs, comes a little over a year after the erstwhile federally administered tribal areas (Fata) were merged into Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and the Constitution was extended to the tribal areas.

Police Officer Sardar Hussian in Safi sub-district of Mohmand told The Express Tribune Subidar Safi was suspected to have been involved in an incident on Saturday in which teenager Zeeshan was killed while three others were injured.

After offering the last rites of Zeeshan on Sunday morning, some in the funeral chanted slogans against the suspect and urged the gathering to set fire to his house per tribal customs.
