Fake Encounter: Trial to begin on July 11

The trial of four police officers including a deputy superintendent of police allegedly involved in a fake encounter will start on July 11 in Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Sheraz Kiani’s court. The judge on Wednesday summoned the accused police officers for the hearing. According to prosecution, three robbers including one Shahbaz Butt entered Makkah Medical Store in Youhanabad. While Butt’s accomplices fled with Rs35,000, he was caught by the owner and handed over to the Muhafiz Squad officials under Sub Inspector Riaz’s supervision. Butt was later shot near Rohi drain and the police claimed he died in a shootout. DIG Maj (retired) Mubashirullah, the Chuhng Police Training School principal, has ordered to hold an inquiry into the matter and found the officers guilty. An FIR was then registered against the accused under Sections 302/34 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
