KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to advertise vacancies for the posts of chairperson of various educational boards in the province. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah approved the summary sent by the provincial universities and boards department proposing the publication to invite applications for these jobs.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Sindh Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah said that the replacement of educational board chairpersons, where the incumbent chairperson’s tenure is expiring, will be made strictly on merit and the relevant departments have been directed to invite applications through advertisements in this regard.
‘Sindh govt spending billions on Karachi’s development’
The chairpersons of five educational boards of the province would be completing their term on September 30. These include the chairpersons of the secondary and higher secondary boards of Larkana and Sukkur, the Sindh board of technical education, Karachi secondary education board and Karachi intermediate education board. Hyderabad Educational Board Chairperson Dr Muhammad Memon and Mirpurkhas education board chairperson have already been granted extensions in their tenure.
The provincial universities and boards department has reportedly been lax and has been mulling over the publication of advertisements. Sources say that it is feared that the top position at the educational boards might remain vacant or that appointments might not be made through advertisements.
Meanwhile, the positions of examinations secretary and controller in various educational boards in Sindh have remained vacant for the past five years. This has led to the education boards being managed by senior government officers on an ad hoc basis.

The department has failed to appoint permanent officers on these posts for the past five years.
Earlier this month, written tests for the posts were conducted by the Sindh government but the interview process has yet to take place.
If the lax attitude of the department continues and the hiring of boards’ chairpersons is done the same way, sources believe that the appointments through proper channels or advertisements may also see unnecessary delays.
