The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has developed an indigenous liquid fertiliser machine. The cost of the machine is half the price of one that is imported; the cost of an imported machine is Rs4 million while the indigenous machine costs Rs1.8 million. The machine has been developed by Dr Junaid Nawaz from the Water Management Research Station at UAF. Inaugurating the machine on Saturday, UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ashraf said that the country’s agrarian production can be doubled by adopting modern trends. He added that traditional farming methods were an obstacle in achieving the full potential of the agriculture sector. He stated that academia-industry linkages would pave the way for building a knowledge-based economy. He said that agriculture is the backbone of the economy and contributes 20% to the country’s gross domestic product. Water Management Director Abdul Khaliq, Project Partner Anjum Sharif and others were also present at the occasion.
