Man arrested for blackmailing Malaysian high commissioner

Accused harasses the high commissioner through edited personal pictures

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cybercrime cell has arrested a man for blackmailing and sharing edited family pictures of Malaysian High Commissioner Venkateswari Alagendra.

Prior to the arrest, a complaint was received from the high commissioner through the High Commission of Malaysia, Islamabad, against Saad Waqas. The accused had allegedly harassed and blackmailed the high commissioner through edited personal pictures on a social media platform.

Saad used the pseudonym ‘Shoaib Waqas’ to carry out the online activity. FIA Director Waqar Abbasi formed a team headed by Deputy Director Cybercrime Cell Muhammad Sarfraz. The team conducted a raid in a house in Khawaja Farid Colony, Block D, Gulshan-e-Ravi and arrested the accused.
