The chilling trailer of upcoming Hollywood blockbuster Bombshell has just dropped, boasting of a star-studded cast including Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie.

If the teaser is anything to go by, the film will be an intense, slow-brewing drama that highlights a sexual harassment scandal that stirred up trouble for one of the world's biggest media giants. "What started as a whisper, will end in a bombshell," the teaser is captioned, as we see Robbie and Theron in the elevator.

According to a synopsis, the film is a look "inside the most powerful and controversial media empires of all time, Fox News, and the explosive story of the women who brought down the infamous man who created it,” reported Glamour. The teaser itself is minimal but communicates to the audience that major controversy is brewing.

Leonardo DiCaprio had 'no eye contact' policy on sets of 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'

A massive scandal roiled Fox News in 2016, as sexual harassment allegations piled up against the late Roger Ailes, who was at the time CEO and chairman. One of the women who came forward with accusations was among the network's most recognizable names, Gretchen Carlson. Now, the aptly tiled Bombshell, is dramatizing the story and bringing it to the big screen.

Big Little Lies star Kidman will play Carlson, while South African beauty Theron is set to portray the character of Megyn Kelly, a news anchor. We are also excited to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor Margot Robbie as a fictional associate producer named Kayla Pospisil.

The film is directed by Jay Roach, who helmed the HBO hit Game Change. Political scandal seems to be his forte, so there are high hopes already for the highly-anticipated blockbuster.

Bombshell is set to hit screens on December 20 but it will have stiff competition. The polarising Cats adaptation comes out on the same day and the highly anticipated new version of Little Women, starring Harry Potter star Emma Watson, will make its grand debut only a few days later.
