Bin hammam case to be heard by FIFA on July 22

Suspended AFC president faces allegations of bribery, corruption.

LONDON:

Fifa’s Ethics Committee will convene on July 22 to hear allegations of bribery and corruption against suspended Asian Football Confederation president Mohamed Bin Hammam, according to the BBC.

Allegations against Bin Hammam also include claims that he influenced the 2022 World Cup bid that Qatar won, which he has so far denied.

Caribbean Football Union officials Debbie Minguell and Jason Sylvester will also have their cases heard.

“The committee will meet on July 22 and 23 to examine the cases of Mohamed Bin Hammam, Debbie Minguell and Jason Sylvester, who were provisionally suspended by the ethics committee in relation to an alleged breach of the Fifa code of ethics,” said a statement.

Minguell and Sylvester were suspended after they were accused of accepting bribes amounting to $40,000 offered by Bin Hammam, who was then campaigning for the Fifa presidency.
