On the Lam: Prisoner escapes from police custody

HARIPUR: An under trial prisoner of Haripur jail escaped from police custody here on Tuesday. The district police officer suspended two police personnel and registered criminal case against them over the escape. Police said that Raja Fakhar, who hails from Julain Khanpur, was accused of murdering his brother-in-law Adeel Ahmed in Mamrial village on March 22 this year. He was later arrested. On Tuesday, he was being taken to Central Prison Haripur in a police van with other prisoners after appearing in court, when the van slowed down at a speed breaker near Mohalla Afzalabad. The accused somehow freed his hands and jumped out of the moving vehicle before running off. The police have not found any clue as to his location. Haripur DPO Muhammad Ali Gandapur suspended head constables Ibrahim Khan and Tahir Shah for negligence and criminal cases were also registered against them.
