Poor children from K-P visit Lok Virsa
All students of classes 7 through 10, paid an educational visit to the Heritage Museum at Lok Virsa, Shakarparian.
A group of 20 children from Mansehra District of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), all students of classes 7 through 10, paid an educational visit to the Heritage Museum at Lok Virsa, Shakarparian.
Tuesday’s visit was coordinated by the non-governmental organisation Right to Play, under its ongoing efforts to promote opportunities for development among under-privileged children.
According to a press release issued by Lok Virsa on Tuesday, senior Lok Virsa officials briefed the students of Pakistan’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage, with emphasis on the objectives of Lok Virsa as a specialised cultural body and the functioning of Heritage Museum.
Later, the students were shown three-dimensional creative displays, spread over 60,000 square feet, which portray living cultural traditions and lifestyles.
The children took keen interest in displays in the Hall of Musical Heritage. The display of ethnic jewellery and metal work also got the attention of the children. They asked a number of questions about various museum displays and their relationship with the cultural heritage of Pakistan.
Lok Virsa Executive Director Khalid Javaid said, “Lok Virsa is the only cultural institution in Pakistan that is striving hard to inculcate awareness among the children, especially student community, about their rich cultural heritage.
In this respect, we have established Children Folklore Societies in 12 primary and middle schools in the remotest parts of Balochistan, K-P and Sindh. All these societies are successfully running under the day to day supervision of the district education departments in the three provinces. In future, Lok Virsa is planning to open societies in Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.”
The group also visited Rawal Lake and other significant places in Islamabad.
