Teachers threaten to shut schools
Over government decision of handing over educational institutions to municipal authorities
RAWALPINDI:
Representative bodies of teachers in Rawalpindi district staged protest on Thursday against provincial government decision of handing over educational institutions to municipal authorities. They warned to lock down schools from September 1 if the decision was not reversed until August 29. During protests, leaders of teachers including Imtiaz Abbasi, Shahid Mubarak, and Qazi Imran said that Punjab government’s decision to give schools under municipal corporations would turn educational institutions into political dens. Teachers will be recruited, transferred and promoted on political affiliations. They said the educational system would crash if schools are handed over to UCs. They will protest in Rawalpindi on August 15 and 22 against this initiative.
