Junior hockey team to tour Egypt next month

Pakistan to also feature in Malaysia’s Six Nations event.

KARACHI:

In order to give more international exposure to its young brigade, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) will send the national junior team to Egypt where they will play a five-match Test series next month.

According to a PHF official, the federation is trying to arrange maximum international assignments for the youngsters with an aim to prop up a solid back-up for the senior team.

“The series against Egypt will be beneficial for our junior players,” said the official.

“Although Egypt are not a world-class side, the tour will be fruitful because it will give valuable international experience to our youngsters.

“The PHF is emphasising on youngsters to form a solid back-up for the senior side. So far the response has been positive.”

While the PHF has confirmed the tour of Egypt in August, the schedule was yet to be announced.

“The training camp will start soon, after which the schedule of series will be finalised.”

Team to feature in Malaysia event

In addition to next month’s series, the PHF has also confirmed the junior team’s participation in the first edition of the Six Nations Sultan Ibrahim Cup Hockey Tournament to be held later this year.

“We have confirmed our participation after an invitation from the Malaysian Hockey Federation,” said the official.

The tournament will be played in Johor from November 5 to 12.
