Prince Harry only wants one more child for environmental reasons

Apparently, global-warming has played a part in the duke and duchess's family plans

Prince Harry has surprised the world with his latest decision to give Baby Archie one sibling, despite previous reports alleging that him and his wife Meghan Markle wanted a big family.

In the September issue of British Vogue which Meghan guest-edited, the Duke of Sussex interviewed conservationist Jane Goodall about climate change and how global-warming has played a part in the royal duo's family plans, reported InStyle.

“What we need to remind everybody is: these are things that are happening now. We are already living in it," Harry said of the planet's current pressures. “We are the frog in the water and it’s already been brought to the boil. Which is terrifying.”

Dr. Goodall replied: “Happening and happened. It is terrifying. Especially as you’ve just had a baby.” Would you want to be Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's neighbours? Harry kept his answer light-hearted, but revealed that the evolving state of the environment has made him think twice about having more babies. He added, “I view it differently now, without question. But I’ve always wanted to try and ensure that, even before having a child and hoping to have children.”

Would you want to be Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's neighbours?

“Not too many!” Dr Goodall interjected, to which Harry exclaimed: "Two, maximum!"

“But I’ve always thought: this place is borrowed," the royal continued. "And, surely, as intelligent as we all are, or as evolved as we all are supposed to be, we should be able to leave something better behind for the next generation.”

The public chips in

Despite Prince Harry's good intentions, some Twitter users are not impressed by the environmentally-conscious sentiments. "Prince Harry says having fewer children will help protect the environment, but does it sound a bit hypocritical coming from such a globetrotting couple?" one user commented.

Another Twitter user targeted Meghan and her choice of clothing. "The fashion industry is a massive polluter yet Meghan spends [pounds] on dresses she wears once and is heavily affiliated with Vogue."

Others were just plain irritated by the interview. "Irritated by Prince Harry spouting to Vogue he'll only have two children to save the planet. Why not just have one? So prescriptive, so righteous, so much privilege. I can't even begin to consider the footprint of the royals," one user ranted.

Meanwhile, a Twitter user commented that the reason for the royal duo only wanting to have two children was not because of environmental reasons, but because of Meghan's age. "You will have two kids maximum, not because of the lack of resources of the planet, but because your wifie is turning 38 in four days."
