FIR registered against doctors for botched surgery

Police have registered a first information report (FIR) against two doctors of a private hospital for a botched surgery in which kidney of a 13-year-old girl had been removed.
According to police officials, father of the girl, Muhammad Tahir, who belonged to Panjgur, filed an application for the registration of an FIR against Dr Aliya Hashmi and Dr Karim Zarkoon.
Quetta police said that the FIR had been registered against both doctors under section 334 and 109 but so far none of the doctors have been arrested.
“I brought my daughter to a private hospital in Quetta for the treatment of infected appendix but the doctors removed her kidney without any prior approval,” said Tahir, the girl’s father.
The provincial government had formed a committee of senior doctors to investigate the case after the video of the girl’s father went viral on social media. The committee was supposed to submit the report within 24 hours but it is yet to be furnished.
The girl was discharged from the Balochistan Institute of Nephrology and Urology Quetta where she had been admitted after the surgery. The doctors assured her father that the young girl is stable.
Besides, the Pakistan Medical Association has also raised questions on the formation of the committee, labelling it biased towards the accused doctors.
