Cattle all set to strut their stuff

UAF to organise one-day annual mela on August 2

Cows and buffaloes are all set to strut their stuff on August 2 at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad’s one-day annual cattle mela. Arrangements for the event are currently under way and animals will be judged on their beauty, strut and ability to produce milk.

According to a statement issued by UAF, the cattle mela will be held at the Sports Stadium. Preparations for the event, including cleaning the ground, installation of tents and other necessary measures to avoid any weather-related mishap, are being finalised.

Registrations for the mela will begin on July 30 (today). Animals taking part in the weight carrying competition will be able to register on August 1, while those participating in the beauty pageant and the milking competition will also be able to register on the same say.


UAF Spokesperson Shehreyar Ahmed said that camels, goats and sheep will participate in a multitude of activities.

The main aim of the event is to create interest among citizens and to urge them to take care of their animals, he added. He maintained that the event will begin early morning on August 2 (Friday). He urged all cattle enthusiasts to visit the mela and added that the UAF administration will also distribute prizes among the winners.

The organisers highlighted that a team of veterinary doctors will also be present at the event to share information on how to better care for an animal. The veterinary doctors will guide participants on how to obtain more milk from animals and how to increase their weight and milk production without medicinal intervention, they added.
