Cabinet gives nod to dual-national Pakistanis to contest elections
Candidates who were dual nationals had to give up their foreign passports in order to contest the 2018 elections
The federal cabinet on Friday approved contesting of elections by Pakistani dual-nationals, Radio Pakistan reported.
The cabinet met with Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad and formed a committee to initiate the legal process for the new amendment.
During the meeting, the cabinet members decided that allowing overseas Pakistanis to participate in the voting process would be in the country’s best interests.

The cabinet also granted 120 days extension to the 8th Interim Wage Award – which was previously announced by the de facto information minister on June 20.
In the run-up to the 2018 general elections, the Federal Investigation Agency provided details of 122 candidates possessing dual nationality to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
