KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) convicted four accused for the murder of former DSP Qasim Ghori and another police official during a police encounter.

Finding the accused guilty, the court sentenced Ahmar, Ranjhan, Imran and Allah Wadayo to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs1 million on each of the convicts.

According to police, the convicts killed former DSP Ghauri and ASI Asif in an encounter near Safari Park in 2013. Five other police officials were injured in the encounter.

Hearing adjourned

Another ATC adjourned the hearing of Intezar murder case due to the absence of a witness while another witness in the case, Madiha Kiyani, complained before the court that the petitioner has been threatening her since a year.

The counsels for the accused could not complete cross-examination of the statement given by witness, Arshad.

The government lawyer said that Arshad was busy in Sindh High Court and could not appear before the court.

Kiyani's statement would be recorded once cross-examination of Arshad's statement is complete. She complained about the petitioner. "I have been receiving threats for a year," she said.

The court told Kiyani that she did not need to appear before the court for every hearing and the court would summon her when her statement would be recorded. The court also directed her to inform the court if she received any more threats and said it would issue a notice and seek the petitioner's reply.

Hearing was adjourned till August 7.
