Govt kicks off projects worth Rs21b in Faisalabad

CM and governor lay foundation stone for mega projects

Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has started visiting divisional headquarters in the province of Punjab. During the first leg, he went to the Circuit House in Faisalabad to lay the foundation stone of seven mega projects for Faisalabad. More than Rs21 billion will be spent on these schemes.

Governor Punjab Ch. Muhammad Sarwar accompanied him during the visit. Sarwar and Buzdar jointly laid the foundation stone of the eastern wastewater treatment plant project for the city. This plant would be completed in three years at an amount of Rs19.33 billion and will be linked with Gogera Branch Canal.

Both the governor and the chief minister also laid the foundation stone for the project to turn the link road from Khurianwala to Sahianwala Interchange into a dual carriageway. This project will be completed at a cost of Rs256 million. On the occasion, the foundation stones for a new sewerage system scheme, a trauma center and the uplift of a rural health center to a THQ hospital in Dijkot was also laid.

Also laid was the foundation stone of operation theatres of Allied Hospital’s emergency ward, which will be completed at a cost of around Rs340 million.

Bureaucracy reluctant to fast-track ML-I approval

The project to construct a regional training institute of the Population Welfare Department was also inaugurated on the occasion. This regional institute will be completed within an amount of Rs150 million and offer two years diplomas to family welfare workers.

Earlier, an announcement was made about the provision of the latest equipment to the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology for an amount of Rs391 million.


While speaking to the media at the Circuit House in Faisalabad, Chief Minister Usman Buzdar said divisional had kicked off on the orders of the prime minister. He said the government was thankful to the people of Faisalabad for showing love and affection towards PTI.

He said the water treatment project was a gift for the citizens of Faisalabad. “We have already visited this city; proposals for assembly members will be heard and problems will be solved,” he said. “As many as Rs152 billion have been allocated in the ADP for 500 schemes of Faisalabad division.” Buzdar said the scope of development work would be further expanded.

The CM also congratulated the PM for his successful visit to the US. He maintained that the success of the tour was unprecedented. “For the first time, US President Donald Trump offered mediation on the Kashmir issue,” he added.

Buzdar was confident that the Pakistan Army was standing with this democratic government. ”We pay tributes to the armed forces for their efforts for maintaining peace in the country.”

The chief minister also announced a project for a journalists’ colony in Faisalabad and invited them to his office.

Governor Sarwar, meanwhile, said that the number of development schemes approved by the CM was unprecedented. He claimed that all the assembly members were thankful to him. “We also congratulate Prime Minister Imran Khan for his successful US visit and a consultation process with assembly members will continue,” he added. Earlier, Sarwar and Buzdar inaugurated a tree-plantation campaign by planting a sapling.
