Unidentified body: ‘Indian’ dead body floats into Pakistan

Deceased is believed to be an Indian Sikh; New Delhi to be contacted.

SIALKOT:

The police have found a dead body of an unknown person from River Chenab near Head Marala (Sialkot tehsil) on Sunday. Senior police officials say that the dead body appears to be of an Indian Sikh.

It is assumed that the deceased might have drowned in River Chenab in Indian-held Jammu Kashmir and his body floated down the river into Pakistani territory.

There do not appear to have been any identifying documents on the man.

Rescuers fished out the body and handed it over to the police after recovering it from the canal.

Senior police officials said that the government of Pakistan will soon contact the Indian High Commission in Islamabad about this matter. (with additional reporting from PPI)
