US President Donald Trump, often under fire from media in his homeland, praised reporters from Pakistan during his first meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

When a reporter asked the US president a question, Trump asked if he was from Pakistan and was told that the reporter was. "Good, I want a couple of Pakistani reporters. I like them much better than our reporters."

The president's remark caused laughter among those present at the Oval Office.

The two leaders jointly addressed the press and later had a one-on-one meeting, which was followed by delegation-level talks between the two sides. President Trump also hosted a luncheon in the prime minister’s honour.

The prime minister and the US president also held comprehensive discussions with a focus on building a broad-based and enduring partnership between Pakistan and the United States and strengthening cooperation between the two countries to bring peace, stability, and economic prosperity in South Asia.

President Trump appreciated Pakistan’s contribution to the Afghan peace talks and Prime Minister Imran reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue to support the process in good faith. He also added that pursuing the process was a shared responsibility.
