HYDERABAD: The lower Sindh region received its first early monsoon showers on Monday with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) recording the highest amount of 25 millimeter rainfall in Thar district. PMD has forecast more rain and thunderstorm for the districts of Hyderabad and Mirpurkahs divisions on Tuesday. Rainfall started in the afternoon and continued through the evening.

Following the rain, widespread power outages were reported from Hyderabad, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Badin and other districts. However, the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) claims that only 60 out of its 480 electric feeders have been shut down.

HESCO spokesperson, Sadiq Kubar, said 52 feeders have been shut for safety reasons while eight have developed faults.
