Old enmity claims man’s life in Lahore
Police register FIR under anti-terrorism and other charges
LAHORE:
A man who was injured in a firing incident at Qartaba Chowk on Sunday succumbed to his injuries at Services Hospital on Monday.
The victim was identified as Sheikh Irfan Channa. Police shifted the body to a morgue and registered an FIR under anti-terrorism and other sections.
Initial investigations revealed that the incident was the result of an old enmity. Police said that the deceased, along with his son Muzammil Irfan, Hamza Butt, Javed Butt and others, was returning home after offering funeral prayers at Miani Shahid graveyard. As they reached Jail Road, suspects in a car intercepted them and opened indiscriminate fire. As a result, Irfan, their gunman, Muhammad Rafique, and a passerby Sher Bahadar suffered injuries.
Muzammil, the complainant in the FIR, said Aghosh Butt, Asheed Butt, and others opened fire on them. The firing continued for several minutes. Later, the suspects fled from the scene. After the shooting, the panic was created in the locality.

Police, including senior police officers, SP Civil Lines Dost Muhammad Khosa, reached the spot and collected forensic evidence from the crime scene. They recorded statements of witnesses.
The victims were admitted to the Services Hospital where Irfan succumbed to his injuries on Monday. The other injured were said to be in stable condition.
Based on the complaint of Muzammil, the son of deceased Irfan, a case has been registered against the suspects. Police have formed raiding teams to arrest the accused who remain at large.
Khosa vowed to arrest the culprits at the soonest. He said that the incident was a result of an old enmity. “The deceased, Irfan, had shot at and injured Asheed Butt and his father a few months back. This attack was an act of vengeance.”
No country for old men
This is not the first incident of violence due to old enmity. Earlier, two men were gunned down over an old enmity at Allama Iqbal International Airport. The suspects had targeted Zain Ali, who was accused of murdering PPP Lahore General Secretary Babar Butt, two years ago. The deceased was returning home after performing Umrah.
Two days after the incident, Civil Lines police arrested a few armed suspects outside the anti-terrorism court. The armed men were trying to barge into the court to avenge the murder of their relatives when the accused were presented for hearing. Heavy ammunition was also recovered. The same week, four more people with weapons were arrested outside the anti-terrorism court. They were relatives of rival groups linked to the airport firing incident.
