KARACHI:
Defence Police claim to have arrested an eight-member group, including a husband and wife, involved in drug dealing in posh localities of the city. The accused are drug addicts themselves, said the police, adding that weapons, four cars and a motorcycle were also seized from the suspects.

South SSP Sheeraz Nazir told the media during a press conference at his office on Sunday evening that the accused - Shah Nawaz, Shahrukh, Zahid alias Zaibi, Ahsan, Malik Noman, Nadia alias Aliza, Asma Rizvi and Sana Mir - were arrested from Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

Shahrukh and Nadia alias Aliza are married, said the SSP, adding that 20 grams of Ice drug, besides hashish and other contraband have been seized from their possession. The group is involved in selling drugs in posh localities of the city and steals cars to feed their own addiction.

According to SSP Nazir, the accused have admitted to stealing more than 15 cars, which they supplied to two persons, identified as Matiur Rehman and Khalid Raeesi, in Balochistan. In exchange, they were given narcotics, including Ice, and money. The accused then used to shift the narcotics to Karachi. Police are conducting raids to arrest more accomplices of the accused.

In response to a question, SSP Nazir said that narcotics, especially Ice, are being sold on a large scale in schools and colleges in the areas of DHA and Clifton. "This is destroying our youth," remarked SSP Nazir. "This group also sold the drugs to young girls and boys," he added.
