LAHORE:

City police will soon set up 20 model police stations with proper facilities and staff with a good performance record, SSP (admin) Tariq Abbas told The Express Tribune.

He said a proposal had been prepared and that a meeting could be called this week to approve it. He said four police stations each in the City and Cantonment divisions and three each in the remaining four divisions have been selected for the purpose. He said with the setting up of model police stations, police would be able to enhance liaison with the public.

Besides the right number of vehicles for patrolling, these police stations will have computers, printers, fax machines, television sets, water dispensers and newspapers.

SSP Abbas said model police stations will all have women constables. He said these would be appointed in consultation with the deputy inspector general (operation) and capital city police officer (CCPO).

Talking to The Tribune, an SP, however, said the move would not have any impact on the performance and efficiency of policemen. He said instead of cosmetic changes, funds should have been allocated for buildings for at least 30 police stations operating from rented quarters.

He said each case should be given a serial number so that investigations can be tracked for efficiency.

He said fuel allocations and the number of patrolling vehicles for these police stations would be the same as the current norm.  Also, he said, model police stations would have no attached accommodation or mess for officials on duty.

In City Division, Shahdra, Lower Mall, Tibbi City and Misrih Shah police stations would be upgraded into model police stations. In addition to the existing staff, eight more SIs, ASIs, head constables, foot constables, orderly constables and seven women constables each would be appointed at these stations.

Eight SIs/ASIs, HCs, FCs, OCs and women constables each would be appointed at these station in addition to their existing staff. A reporting room would be formed at the Superintendent of Police (SP)’s office at Sarwar Road.

In Civil Lines division, Civil Lines, Old Anarkali and Mughalpura police stations would be upgraded to model police stations. Four SIs/ASIs and FCs, five HCs and 6 each OC and women constables each would be appointed here in addition to exisiting staff. A reporting room would be established in Civil Lines police station. In Allama Iqbal Town division, Allama Iqbal Town, Ghulshan-i-Ravi and Muslim Town police stations would be upgraded. Six SIs/ASIs, HCs, FCs, OCs and women constables each would be appointed here besides the current staff.

sohaib | 12 years ago | Reply i m not very excited to know this. this model mania is, in fact, not the solution of the distorted image of the police.the morbid character of police may not be improved through the provision of logistics only. it needs more than this. those who are at the helm of affairs better know this. cosmetics are helpless in bringing the beauty which is skin deep.
