The police have arrested 3,195 alleged drug peddlers in the first six months of the current year. The City division police registered 689 cases against drug peddlers during an ongoing crackdown of which 588 are in Cantt division, 454 in Civil Lines division, 433 in Sadar division, 346 in Iqbal Town division and 638 in Model Town division. The police also recovered more than 1,516kg of hashish, 86kg of opium, 38.872kg of heroin and around 35,000 bottles of liquor from the peddlers. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Ashfaq Khan said that anti-social elements in society will be dealt with an iron hand. “A zero tolerance policy is being implemented against criminals, particularly drug peddlers.” The DIG urged people to cooperate with the police for eliminating the menace of narcotics from society.
