Investment in energy sector stressed
90% of the investment in the country foreign in nature says BOI Chairman
KARACHI:
There is a dire need to promote investment in the energy sector of the country since barring China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) no other major investments have taken place in the energy sector in the past few years, said Board of Investment (BOI) Chairman Zubair Gilani. Addressing a session on Saturday at the Governor House, he said that even though 90% of the investment in the country was foreign in nature, none of the expected trickle down impact was enjoyed. He felt that in order to reap the desired benefits there was an urgent need to move towards technology. Gilani was of the view that a consistent approach would help address these issues. Lamenting the nonchalant attitude of the previous governments in the sector, he stated, “Economic sovereignty is the key to comprehensive development,” adding that policies of the previous government have negatively impacted the economy.
