We don’t hate each other: Arbaaz on life after Malaika
Actor-producer revealed the two still share a cordial relationship and have great respect for each other
Former Bollywood power couple, Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora sent shockwaves throughout the world when they announced their decision to end their 16-year-long marriage. Their divorce was finalised in 2017 and both stars went their separate ways. However, they continue to be cordial with each other, reported India Today.
In a recent interview, Arbaaz said he and Malaika dealt with their divorce with a lot of maturity. "We have been together for so many years and shared so many memories. Most importantly we have a kid together, so there's a great amount of respect involved,” he shared.
Arbaaz added, “There was something that did not work between us so we got separated. However, this doesn't mean that we will hate each other. We are mature individuals and we are dealing with it with respect and dignity.”
Not only does Arbaaz share a friendly equation with Malaika but her family as well. "I have a good equation with her side of the family too. So if we could not live amicably under one roof, we decided to lead our lives separately. Our son has kept us bonded and when he grows up everything will be better," revealed the Dabangg producer.
Earlier, on Kareena Kapoor Khan's radio show What Women Want, Malaika said that it was not an easy decision to make but it was an important step for the happiness of the two and those around them.
"We did think about a lot of things and weighed every single pro and con. And then we decided, it's better that we move our separate ways because we would just be better people. Because we were two people in a situation making each other extremely unhappy which was impacting everybody else's life around us," stated Malaika.
Arbaaz and Malaika tied the knot in 1998 and have a 16-year-old son, Arhaan. They filed for divorce in May 2017. In the same interview, Arbaaz spoke highly about their child and revealed that he handled the divorce well.
"He is a very good son, I love the way he has handled all this. Many times at this sensitive age, children are victims of bad influence but he’s a very positive kid,” he said.
Earlier, Malaika was quizzed whether she will be a part of her estranged husband’s upcoming project Dabangg 3. Putting all speculations to rest, she clarified, "No my dear, I am not involved with the film. Everyone involved with the project has moved on and I only wish each and every one all the best for the venture."
Revealing plans about her upcoming projects, an excited Malaika said, "I would definitely want to produce some really good content in my company. The kind of content you see across platforms, in films and otherwise is so promising. I might actually produce a short film or something but nothing immediately."
She continued, "A lot of ideas have come my way and I am just taking my time to green light one or some of them. Actually, this is the best time of my life. For any woman today, life actually begins post 40. It’s an age in which a woman was once considered oh-so-redundant. Today, she’s a lot freer in that same age window." The starlet is currently dating actor Arjun Kapoor.
