IGP orders police to keep doors open to public

LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Captain (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan has directed the Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) and other officers to keep doors of their offices open for the public.

The direction was issued to the Lahore CCPO and all Regional Police Officers (RPO), City Police Officers (CPO) and District Police Officers (DPO) through a notification. He said “Doors should be open for citizens so that people do not face problems of undue waiting. Their issues should be addressed on a priority basis.”

The IGP expressed displeasure over reports of people being made to wait unduly in the presence of an officer in the police station. He further said that it is the responsibility of the police to protect the life, property, and respect of the people; therefore all the officers are directed to keep their doors open, listen to citizens and solve the people’s problems. “It is very important to resolve people’s grievances through an open door policy.” He ordered that all the officers should follow the new instructions and direct their subordinates to adopt these instructions. The IGP emphasised upon officers that they should dedicate time for citizens and also advertise the details for hearing public complaints. .”

He further directed that police officers and officials should call internal departmental meetings and other official meetings well before the arrival of the general public or after they have been listened to.
