NAB files reference against Zardari
Reference names 16 others as suspects including Anwar Ghani Majeed, Hussain Lawai for taking Rs1.5b loan

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday filed a reference against former president and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Express News reported.
The reference, heard by the accountability court registrar, accuses 17, including Zardari of taking a loan worth Rs1.5 billion.
The accused include Iqbal Memon, Younus Kidwai, former Pakistan Stock Exchange chairperson Hussain Lawai and Omni Group chief Abdul Ghani Majeed.
After the initial probe, the court will issue notices to respondents and fix a date for the hearing.
On June 10, PPP co-chair Zardari was arrested by NAB hours after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) recalled the pre-arrest bail granted to him and his sister Faryal Talpur in the fake accounts case.
The cases
The cases against Zardari are part of the investigation being conducted by the anti-graft body in pursuance of the Supreme Court’s verdict in the money laundering of billions through fake accounts case wherein it was forwarded a joint investigation team (JIT) report.
Other suspects in the investigation include Omni Group’s Anwar Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani, Lawai and Summit Bank Senior Vice-President Taha Raza.
