Official for exploring trade avenues
There is a need to revitalise our trade relations with Singapore and there is immense potential in different sectors

High Commissioner designate to Singapore Rukhsana Afzaal has urged the business community to join hands in exploring new avenues of trade among members of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), mainly Singapore. Speaking at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Tuesday, she said that there is a need to revitalise our trade relations with Singapore and there is immense potential in different sectors, including gems and jewellery, Halal foods, rice, mangoes, textile, handicrafts and services sector. She said, “We are working on addressing key issues, direct flights, visas regime and tariff barriers. The private sector will be given full support in organising business opportunity conference and exchange of delegation.” Rukhsana pointed out that a pragmatic approach is required from the chamber of commerce and her office is ready to provide all kind of assistance and cooperation for boosting bilateral trade ties between the two countries. RCCI President Malik Shahid Saleem said that although bilateral trade stands below $1 billion, however, both countries have great potential to double and triple the trade volume over the next five to 10 years.
