Action plan for population welfare finalised
government is fully aware of rapid population growth and has allocated more funds for population
LAHORE:
On the federal government’s direction, the Punjab government has finalised an action plan for implementing a comprehensive population welfare programme in the province.
This was stated during a meeting chaired by Punjab Welfare Minister Hashim Dogar and Punjab Chief Secretary Yousaf Naseem Khokhar on Monday. Addressing the meeting, the provincial minister said that a health mother and child are the foundation for a healthy society.
He maintained that the government is fully aware of rapid population growth and has allocated more funds for population welfare in this year’s budget. He directed officials to enhance coordination with the health department with regard to mother and child healthcare programmes.
The chief secretary said that concrete steps are needed to control the growing population. “It attention is not paid to this issue, it will become difficult to handle the problems in the years to come,” he said.
