610 prisoners get screened at medical camp

Tests are being administered at no cost

As many as 610 of the 6,000 prisoners at the Adiyala Central Jail have been screened for infectious diseases at a special medical camp. Talking to the media, District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Rashid Khan said that of the 610 inmates screened, 32 have tested positive for Hepatitis-C while five were diagnosed with Hepatitis-B.

Dr Rashid said that the tests are being administered at no cost to the prisoners to check for Hepatitis B/C and HIV and AIDS prevalence. He added that inmates are also being provided with medical consultation, examination, vaccination and treatment.


He said that 11 officials of the District Health Authority including medical officers, dispensers and computer operators are performing duties at the camp. He added that the medical camps will continue till July 20.
