Sheikh Rasheed says plan ready for big operation against land mafia

RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Corruption Department (ACD) has registered cases against two political figures and 10 employees of finance department for occupying public land in jurisdiction of Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB).

They had occupied 27 kanals of land worth Rs1 billion which was property of Punjab government.

According to the first information report (FIR) the land was encroached by the suspects in 1997 who rented it out on commercial basis. As per the orders of the Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, the high officials from finance department carried out demarcation of related land and conducted inquiry from shop owners who disclosed a number of things.

Similarly, the provincial government, railways and military land administration initiated a fresh demarcation after which it is expected that another 90 kanals of land would be recovered.

Meanwhile, the government was also conducting demarcation process for determining size of occupied public land in Morgah and Koth Kalan areas.

Further, the Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed told that around 1,160 kanal land of Pakistan Railways was found occupied during survey for Leh Expressway.

He added that the recovery process would commence soon. He told that the district administration was preparing for a big operation against the land mafia in which the Punjab and railway police would also participate.
