6 of a family killed in Swat avalanche

Second such incident in same area

PESHAWAR: As many as six members of a family were killed on Thursday morning as an avalanche decimated their house in Swat. The administration of Matlatan area of Swat confirmed the incident, adding that all the deceased belonged to the same family. Moreover, local residents and members of the local administration worked to recover the bodies from the debris. The official added that Bakht Rawan, an elderly resident of the area had been injured by the avalanche. He has been shifted to a local hospital for treatment, the official said. Locals told The Express Tribune that the dead included a woman, her five children and a relative. They were identified as Rubi begum, five-year-old Gulmeena, Zakia, Zaheera and a two-year-old boy. Their guest, Maryam was also among the victims. Officials said that this was the second such incident in the same area. However, because they took precautionary measures, most of the locals have been shifted to safer areas. When contacted, the Rescue 1122 office in Peshawar said that the site of the incident was located a little over two hours from Kalam in Swat. They added that rescue workers had to walk to the spot to reach the site.
