Sikh community invites PM Imran to Guru Nanak's birth anniversary
Anniversary celebrations to commence at Nankana Sahib from July 25
The Sikh community has invited Prime Minister Imran Khan to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.
The invitation was extended by the apex body of Sikhs, responsible for the management of historic Gurdwaras worldwide.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar and Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar are also invited.
The celebrations will commence at Nankana Sahib from July 25.
The strained relations between Pakistan and India have made it difficult for Sikh pilgrims to take part in religious activities.
Kartarpur Corridor hits snag as Modi govt eyes political gain
The Kartarpur corridor, which will allow the Sikh pilgrims to exercise their religious obligations, is seen as a “path-way” for better relations between two countries.
Once operational, the corridor will provide visa-free access to Sikhs from India to their holiest Shrine located inside Pakistan. This will also be the first visa-free corridor between the two nuclear-armed neighbours since their independence in 1947.
The proposal has been in the works for over two decades. However, it only began to take shape when in August when the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan announced that Pakistan was planning to open the corridor.
