98 per cent of cheats walk free

KARACHI: Ninety-eight per cent of the students who were caught cheating in the previous supplementary Matric exams were pardoned, the education board realised two days ago.

The board of directors of the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, held a meeting on June 7 to review the budget for approval and realised that the board had pardoned 47 of the 48 candidates caught cheating in the supplementary exams in 2009.

Board members expressed their fury and decided to form a committee to review this decision.

The committee will comprise Additional Secretary Governor House Kamran Shamshad and Chairman Sindh Board of Technical Professor (retired) Syed Siddiqi.

The committee will present its report in the meeting to be held on June 14.

The only candidate who was awarded punishment for a year had roll number 906013 and the rest walked free.

The papers of eight candidates were, however, cancelled.

These included roll numbers 970407, 973055, 925367, 926871, 931150, 940456, 921420 and 902366.
