A Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker sought permission for a debate in the Punjab Assembly, saying alleged negligence on the part of the Punjab government and the hospital management led to the death of an extraordinarily obese man, Noorul Hassan.

Hassan recently underwent a successful weight loss surgery, passed away on Monday after he was left unattended due to chaos at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Shalamar Hospital. He was a Sadiqabad resident and weighed 330kgs. He underwent a liposuction surgery on June 28 after the army facilitated his treatment.
MPA Mumtaz Ali submitted an adjournment motion in the Punjab Assembly secretariat, contending that according to media reports neither any representative of the Punjab government nor staff of Shalamar Hospital was present when the family of a deceased woman protested at the hospital. They not only damaged property but also kicked the doctors out of the unit,” the source added. As a result, patients were left unattended for at least three hours. Noorul Hassan also died because he was left unattended.
Hassan’s surgery took place on June 28 and doctors had said his life was out of danger following the surgery. He remained under observation at the intensive care unit (ICU) for two days. He requested the House to admit his adjournment motion and start a debate in the House over this issue.

According to sources, if the hospital administration or doctors are found guilty, the hospital would be charged with heavy fine and it can also be sealed. Moreover, action will be taken against the family members of the woman who died at the gynecology department, if they are found guilty.
