Traders call off strike
They gave the strike call under the umbrella of All Karachi Tajir Ittehad
KARACHI:
Karachi-based businessmen and traders have conditionally called off three-day shutter-down strike, which was scheduled to begin from Monday July 8. They gave the strike call under the umbrella of All Karachi Tajir Ittehad, which is a grand alliance of around 600 markets in the city of seaports, to force the federal government to withdraw the anti-business budget for fiscal year 2019-20. They called off the strike following a meeting with Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Sunday. “The governor has assured us to address all issues through talks,” All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Committee Member Muhammad Rizwan told The Express Tribune. Ismail got traders connected with Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi to advance talks on the issues. “FBR Chairman Shabbar Zaidi is scheduled to arrive in Karachi in a day or two. We are scheduled to meet him to get our demands accepted. Governor Sindh would chair the meeting,” said Rizwan, who is also President Karachi Electronic Dealers Association (KEDA).
