Director reacted to the criticism that the Bollywood film has received for being 'misogynistic'

It's safe to say the Bollywood blockbuster release of the Shahid Kappor starrer Kabir Singh has drawn unprecedented buzz around the film. After the highly anticipated film hit the screen recently, some people have taken to Twitter to criticise it for being misogynistic and its 'ill-treatment' of women in the flick.
Audiences were irked after a scene in the film depicting Shahid Kapoor slapping Kiara Advani as her father refuses to marry them. But while Kabir Singh is being criticized for toxic masculinity, film is performing well at the box office, reported Pink Villa.
Director Sandeep Vanga opened up about the flak that the film is receiving in some pretty controversial remarks. He said, "When I started this film, I knew it would be a big success at the box office, but I never thought that the rage would be repeated, and it has multiplied four times now.”

When quizzed about the allegations of violent treatment of women in the film, Vanga said, "When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you don’t have the liberty of slapping each other, then I don’t see anything there."

Not just this, the director bashed all the critics who have slammed the film as he said that those people have never been in love to understand the dynamics of it. “Probably they never experienced (love) in the right way. It's new to them,” he said.

And it gets worse. Talking about a scene in the film where Kabir Singh physically assaults his girlfriend Preeti, Vanga said, "She slapped him without a reason, at least Kabir had a reason to slap her. If you can’t slap, if you can’t touch your woman wherever you want, if you can’t kiss, I don’t see emotion there.”
Kabir Singh has surpassed the 200 crore mark at the box office.
