K-P excise dept recovered Rs3.46m in last fiscal year

Department chief says they overshot their target thanks to additional recoveries in property tax

The provincial excise department on Thursday claimed that it had recovered some Rs3.456 million in different taxes during the last fiscal year of 2018-19.

This was disclosed by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Director General Fayaz Ali Shah while addressing a news conference on Thursday. He said that his department had been given a target of Rs3.364 million for the fiscal year (FY) 2018-19 and that they had managed to surpass it.

He added that the major chunk of taxes which they recovered was under the urban immovable property tax head, recovering Rs1.285 million. The target for the sector was set at RS1.1 billion.


“We have achieved 103% of the given target and we are ready for the next year with a plan to conduct fresh surveys for raising the rating of areas in existing and other municipalities to broaden the tax net,” Shah told the news conference.

While responding to a question regarding drug recoveries, the excise director general maintained that during the last FY 2018-19, excise teams have seized 1,145 kilogrammes (kgs) of hashish, 133 kgs of heroin, 165 kgs of opium, 7.76 kgs of ‘ice’ (crystal methamphetamines) and 24,210 litres of alcohol during different crackdowns.

During the anti-narcotic operations, some 154 suspects were arrested.
