Govt takes back luxury vehicle from Nawaz Sharif: sources
Recovery of 'stolen items' from Jati Umrah has begun: Awan
ISLAMABAD:
A luxury car allotted to former premier Nawaz Sharif was seized by the government on Thursday, The Express Tribune has learnt.
According to sources, Sharif had been given a Mercedes car as a privilege of being the country's prime minister.
The Cabinet Division, the sources added, in a letter on May 31 had asked the former premier to return the car, claiming it was not in his use any longer.
The car, which is registered as GDA-059, was returned after the completion of the necessary paperwork, they added.
Meanwhile, PM’s adviser on information Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the recovery of "stolen items" from Jati Umrah had begun.
“While the masses are suffering from poverty... they [Sharif family] are riding around in luxury cars on the public's expense,” she tweeted.
Sharif is serving seven-year imprisonment at the Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore. He was found guilty in the Al-Azizia reference in December last year.
