Protest: Female workers rally against police
Several female labourers had been tortured by landlords and that the police refused to file their case.
MUZAFFARGARH:
A large group of female labourers protested against the police in Muzaffargarh on Friday afternoon.
According to eyewitnesses, the women alleged that several female labourers had been tortured by landlords and that when they reported the incident the police refused to file their case. “A few days ago, one of our colleagues was assaulted by a landlord and when we informed the police they sided with the landlords and refused to file the case,” said Sumera Bibi, a textile mill worker.
Dozens of female employees at the mill said that Irfan Chaudhery and his brothers had hit several female labourers and sexually assaulted one of them.
When the women reported the case to the police and they refused to file their grievances they protested.
During a protest on Thursday, City Police officials beat several women with sticks and the women have now appealed to the chief minister for justice. Muzaffargarh district superintendent police (DSP) said that there was no torture and that the women were lying. “They have made the whole thing up.
There was no torture and police officials did file their case,” he said.
