Zardari unlikely to contest election of Senate chairperson
Recent all parties conference of opposition parties also resolved to unseat current chairperson, says CM
HYDERABAD:
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari is unlikely to contest the election of the Senate's chairperson. "I don't think Asif Zardari will contend for the seat," he told the media in Sehwan, Jamshoro district, on Sunday.
He said that Zardari got the incumbent chairperson, Sadiq Sanjrani, elected during the previous government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. "Zardari does what he says," said Shah, referring to his party's position for removal of Sanjrani. The recent all parties conference of the opposition parties, hosted by Jamiat-e-Ulema-Islam (F), also resolved to unseat Sanjrani.
The CM said that the opposition will nominate some other candidate for the Senate chairperson seat. He reiterated that the PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has rightly criticised the National Assembly's speaker for not allowing the opposition MNAs to speak on the budget 2019-20.
PTI demands apology from Bilawal for using derogatory remarks against NA speaker
"We condemn such an act of the speaker." He blamed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) government for aggravating the country's financial woes by increasing inflation and taxes which directly affect the poor and the working class.
"The budget has affected people from all walks of life whether they be businessmen, farmers, peasants or labourers". The CM said that Sindh's share under the federal transfer of funds stood at Rs665 billion but the amount was reduced to Rs631 billion on June 13 while only Rs505 billion have been released to the province so far.
He accused the Centre of delays in the progress of several development schemes in Sindh caused by the withholding of the funds. The CM also condemned the PTI government's alleged attempts to woo the opposition legislators for their support for the budget by making certain offers to them.
