(PTI) were injured as police shelled a group of protesters with tear gas and assaulted them with batons.
BATTAGRAM:
At least ten activists of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) were injured as police shelled a group of protesters with tear gas and assaulted them with batons here on Thursday.
They were protesting against the arrest of their leader, who was accused of blocking the Karakoram Highway (KKH) for four hours on June 25.
According to the police, Muhammad Bashir, an employee of District Headquarter Hospital, blamed the gynaecologist of the hospital for the reported miscarriage of his wife. He arranged a press conference and accused the hospital administration of medical negligence.
He then blocked KKH for four hours with the support of political activists, suspending traffic on the busy road. The District Coordination Officer ordered a probe into the miscarriage and the inquiry commission headed by Assistant Coordination Officer found the doctors to be innocent.
According to the findings of the inquiry, the miscarriage did not occur due to the doctors’ negligence, rather some medical complications. The commission suggested legal action against Bashir, PTI’s District President Bara Khan and an activist Naeem Shaheen, who were arrested on Thursday following the registration of FIR against them.
